Colorado's Acorn Internet Services
As owners of their small business, Lisa and Mark Kolb know
how hard it is to effectively market your business. Over the past few
years, marketing efforts have shifted from the traditional hardcopy
brochures to the Internet world of web pages and business listings. This is
a difficult transition for any small business to make. Acorn designs
individual marketing campaigns for each
customer in order
to place them as high as possible in the search engine listings. Email

Inn the News
The Claremont Inn
located in Stratton was
featured in the Haxtun-Fleming Herald in January 2008 for
a Perfect Weekend Get-away Spot in Kit Carson County – A
few hours from anywhere in northeeastern Colorado, or northwestern Kansas,
the adventurous can find a blend of European style, elegance, romance and
sometimes Mystery at the Claremont Inn.A healthy portion of the article invited the reader to
learn more about the owner visionary of the Inn – Dave Dischner. The
inn also received a September 2007 write-up in the 5280 magazine
for murder mysteries, "Local and Accomplice get away with murder in
Stratton". This wonderful piece
introduced the reader to the scene of the crime ( the Claremont Inn) the
characters (from Colorado and Kansas) and the fantastic experience, food
and accommodations.A local
resident from Haxtum was the killer! The Claremont Inn is famous for them with
scheduled mayhem during Halloween and New Years
Eve.
Castle Marne Bed & Breakfast in Denver
received a Denver Post Lifestyles article by Ann Westerberg
featuring Colorado castles. The write up focused on the inn's
history..."Designed in 1889 by William Lang, the architect responsible for
the Molly Brown House and the castlelike South Broadway Church in Denver,
this three-story show home is testimony to the ego of developer Wilbur S.
Raymond. It cost twice as much as the Molly Brown House, with a third floor
that served as a grand ballroom, with then-rare indoor plumbing, and the
elegant imported Lincrusta-Walton pressed-paper wall coverings that John D.
Rockefeller chose for his house in New York City. After sinking all his
cash into his castle, Lang lost his home to foreclosure after a year. In
1918, owner Adele Van Cise remodelled the castle into apartments,
subdividing rooms and transporting an entire room from one site to another.
Since 1988, Jim and Diane Peiker have restored the Castle Marne, which now
operates as a Victorian inn."
Our Hearts Inn Old Colorado City
located in Colorado Springs
was pleased to host Jessica L. Anderson, a contributing
author for the Kiplinger Magazine's July article titled The Ten
Best Cities to Live, Work and Play! Jessica was kind enough to
mention, "Andy & Pat Fejedelem moved to the Springs in 1993 from
northern Illinois. 'We were on vacation here, and I could hardly bear
to leave, I felt as if my heart had stayed', says Pat. They bought a
home, converted it into a bed-and-breakfast and gave it a name that matched
their sentiments: Our Hearts Inn."
Holden
House and Innkeeper/El Paso County Commissioner Sallie Clark in Colorado Springs were featured in
the July issue of American Airlines American Way magazine with a
quote promoting local restaurants and favorite spots for fun in the Pikes
Peak
Region.

Darlene and
Daniel Gonzales from Elkwood
Manor, Pagosa
Springs
In 1996, while vacationing with his
daughter, Daniel Gonzales fell in love with a small town called Pagosa
Springs, Colorado.Shortly
after, Daniel was determined to make Pagosa his retirement home. However, that was before he met
Darlene.Daniel
and Darlene met at Northrop Grumman Corporation in Palmdale,
California. They served 32
and 23 years in the Aerospace Industry, respectively.Contingent upon an agreement with
Darlene to move to Pagosa Springs, Daniel and Darlene were married in
August 2003.
Unlike
Daniel, Darlene was not old enough to collect her retirement and moving to
Pagosa was the perfect opportunity to start her own business,
something she'd always longed for. She thought, Pagosa Springs doesn’t have a
“Pie Shoppe.” Great idea! That idea was quickly revoked by
friends and family since Darlene had never baked a pie in her life. So, with Daniel’s support,
the Gonzales' took their first leap into the fast growing industry of
owning a Bed and Breakfast and began searching for the perfect location for
their B&B. Taken by breathtaking
panoramic views, a large wooden deck and the wrap around porch, they
purchased a 3,700 sq ft home that sat on a commercial lot and began the
conversion into what is now known as Elkwood Manor, Luxury Bed &
Breakfast.
Daniel
retired in April 2005 to begin the eight grueling months of
renovations and construction while Darlene stayed in California and
continued to work until November of 2005. The inn began first taking
reservations through their website, Pamela Lanier’s B&B
Assoc, and BBonline in August for a Grand Opening scheduled for December
2005. Just four weeks after Darlene moved to Pagosa, on 23
December 2005, the inn's first guests arrived on the door step,
less than 24 hours before the plumbing was completed in their private
quarters.Talk about a tight
schedule and no stress!Perseverance and determination saw them through a lot of long hours
and hard work, making Elkwood Manor what it is
today.
Elkwood Manor is now a 6,000 sq ft
log home that accommodates up to 12 people, three full size suites and an
optional two bedrooms with a shared bath.Every room of the house has a fireplace and almost
every room of the house has a full panoramic view of the San Juan
Mountains.Guests can
enjoy sitting out in the courtyard, enjoying spectacular views, sipping
wine in Daniel and Darlene's very own wine tasting room or
soaking in the Jacuzzi under the
stars.
"We love what we have created and
take pride in our accomplishments", says Darlene. "But most of all, we enjoy the wonderful guests we've
met during our first few years and the friends that we've made along the
way.We look forward to many
more years in the B&B industry."
